Labor Day Weekend
We left late Friday, and anchored in Port Ludlow in the dark. With an easy morning approach along the shore we found the Matts Matt entrance easily. It was good to see the Range Markers coming in, with rocks on both sides! After the left turn, and a small sandbar, the "lake" opened up inside. I was focused on the raft-up, lines and fenders etc, and seem to have missed the overview shot. Once rafted, we learned Ponderosa, the big Valiant 47 had hit the rock outside the entrance, at maybe 6 knots! Bob and Sherry were tossed and worried, the boat is their home, the Alsaska trip planned for next year, and then the Haha to Mexico. The boat was not leaking, so they carried on and anchored inside. Larry and Karen on Panta Rhei had dive gear and I actually got to see the mashed lead on Ponderosa's keel too. The wetsuit didn't fit, and I hadn't been diving in 20 years, so I was cold and gobbling more air than usual, but what a treat - Thanks Larry! Fred, always the navigator, went to everyone to see what charts they were using. Paper charts showed two buoys, but the Coast Guard had removed one, which only showed up on updated digital charts. Fred was a little surprised when we had the right chart for our Macs. The trip home included a submarine crossing and tacking as close to shore as we dared, North of Boeing Creek, with the train lit up by the sunset. What an eventful and memorable trip! Thanks all! - Please enjoy these snapshots - the pics are good therapy for me. . . Well worth re-editing 17 years later!
