Race Your House

Race Your House Start

Saturday dawned crisp and clear, the first real Fall day after a great sunny summer. Martin one of my favorite sailing mentors, joined us for "Race your House". A little late to the start, we found out the fast boats were at the other end, closer to the next mark and in better wind. Rounding the first mark, West point, in a lot of current, we headed over to Bainbridge. We took a bit of a flyer. In light air, we set our spinnaker, and jibed out into the current, but as we got closer to Point Monroe, we watched the fleet catch us. Rounding in the back third of the fleet, we headed back to West point, upwind. The wind picked up and were occasionally burying the rail, but it was too close to reef. We made better time on the next leg and certainly didn't need the spinnaker, running back to the point Monroe mark. The final leg, back to the finish line went a little better when we moved the jib leads. We caught a few boats, but the rest of our "class" finished ahead of us. We had a good time in really mixed conditions, 0 to 30 knots. While we certainly couldn't sail to our rating, we had a great sailing day with Martin, and a fun "Race Your house" - Thanks Sloop Tavern and sponsors!
