2013 Pig Roast
For almost 25 years, my sister Lane, and her artist husband Rodger, have done an annual pig roast over in Cle Elum. It is the most eclectic group I've ever seen, with a combination of friends, family, neighbors, co-workers that spans the gamut of race, creeds, income, and interests. There is usually anywhere from 40 to 140 people, and I try to get pics of most of them, despite the harsh and fleeting light. Folks come from all over, friends for a weekend, and we may not see them again till another pig roast, sometimes years later. Once invited, you are "family", expected to show up with toilet paper, charcoal, food and stories. Campers scatter, but the conversations bring them together. Just look at all the mixed groups in quiet conversations, well not always that quiet! With space to roam, the kids are quietly watched over by all, and it's fun to see them grow up each year. This year there was no fire or joke log, and both were missed! The pig roast is always a major feed, with all kinds of special treats for the potluck, and a swim when it's hot. The river is often dangerous, and the "beach" changes every year. Pig master Marty makes omelets for breakfast, folks help cleanup, and weekend is over way to quickly! See you next year?
Here's a few pics - Click on the image above for the "Index" page, and on any of the pics there, for a "slideshow" with larger images. Look for the "next" navigation button, it's not an automatic slideshow. Enjoy. . .
