Ebey Slough Trip | Labor Day Weekend

We headed out late Saturday, too late to make it to Everett, so we went over to Port Madison. The next morning we tiptoed out to Jefferson Head, where the fog lifted enough to see across to the tanks South of Edmonds. In light air, I put up the spinnaker - who packed this mess? Well I had a good twist, and snarled sock too. Lines snagged, I went back to release, we gybed, big oops! I ducked the boom, but got tossed by the mainsheet into the lifelines. The adjustment turnbuckle took off a 1x6 inch strip of skin, and I was running around dripping on the boat and chute, "awe shit, shit, shit!" We cleaned up and got it flying again, sailed and them motored a little. We found the reef mark NW of Everett, and tiptoed into the hole off Preist Point, with maybe 3' under the keel. We anchored and had dinner, following our desert, always a good plan. . .

On Labor Day, we did a long dinghy trip, motoring up Steamboat Slough, and around to the Snohomish River. There's something interesting to see every few minutes! We stopped to pick black berrys, saw lots of birds, big sky, swinging bridges, and even a few interesting boats. Back to Simplicity, we motored out just before high slack, and sailed almost all the way home. It was a good weekend, and nice to be back on the boat! We got back to our Shilshole slip about 9:30 pm Monday night, sailing smoothly home, on a almost warm, very dark night, and loving it - very sweet sailing. Enjoy!
