Seriously a light air morning, the CYC Commodore Gibson Race start was moved up North of Kingston. We had a fun start ghosting along, trying to work from patch to patch of breeze. Liberty Bell looked pretty. Joyride slid through the start, and we made it past Torrid. Outlaw took off, and was soon out of sight. While we played in the current, Spark worked the shore line North. Dorothy headed off for more wind, and came romping back. The Victoria Clipper actually altered course, and Scimatar sailed past the fleet, to reach over from Useless Bay, but couldn't catch Outlaw. Best sail of the day was the Foulweather Bluff to Ludlow reach. With a nice breeze everyone came in grinning!
The Port Ludlow Marina worked out well, and with the great potluck dinner, we all moved over to the fire pit. Jerry was an excellent race manager, and came equipped with hilarious awards. We were all in stitches and smiles. What a fun evening. . .
Sunday morning was very foggy. We felt our way out, and followed a heading, till we found the bluff shadow in the fog. Moments later it was clearing and sunny, sweet! A downwind start, we reached off in light air, while the rest of the fleet went South, oops. . . We had a busy and entertaining day jibing the chute, but only crossed paths with Dorothy. If you are going to have spinnaker hourglass and weather balloons, probably best to avoid the cameras. We thought we saw most everyone else on the other side of the sound, when the big ships came out. We jibed and jibed, and carried the chute from Foulweather Bluff to the Meadow Point bouy. Exhausted, we swept by in the current. Enough, we scored another DNF, and were happy to be back in the slip before sunset.
