It's been years since Kathleen and I had a San Juan's trip, and we finally got off, in the fog. The fog was even thicker, when we woke over by the cliffs, off Port Townsend, and just NE of Point Wilson, but cleared in Rosario Strait before Quemas channel. We spent a night in Anacortes, worked a little, and headed over to Spencer Spit. Saturday we went up through Peavine Pass, and to Clark Island. It's a special place, a favorite of kayakers and canoe campers. The next morning, I couldn't start the diesel, so we sailed about 25 miles up to Blaine. Kathleen did a great job keeping us moving, with the current, a long day. We took the spinnaker down, put the outboard on the dinghy, and slowly crawled in. Blaine friend Hank saved me, with a ride to Costco for another starter battery - big thank you! We toped off fuel at Semiahmoo and headed to Sucia where we hooked up with Alan and Sandy on s/v Norwegian Steam for dinner and a dinghy ride at dusk. Thanks Alan for letting me raft-up! The next day was quite an awesome San Juan's tour! Kathleen checked the currents with David's PNW Current Guide, spotted the early ebb flushing down the NW side of Orcas Island. Wow what a difference, loafing down the island at 8 to 9+knots. We ducked in North Pass, by Deer Harbor, down through Pole Pass and across to Blind Bay. We took a short break, continued on through the Spencer/Frost cut, down to Lopez Pass and around to Watmouth Bay. We had an easier day to Port Townsend, stopping in Point Hudson Marina for a nice dinner. We had to hump back to Seattle, got to sail a bit, and see s/v Maiden North of Point No Point. What a great short little trip! Here's pics. . . Thanks all!
