June 11-13, 2021
Dwight and Sean were bringing Sean's CHB Heritage 42 up the coast from San Francisco, and doing repairs along the way. Most of their stops were a harbor-hop apart, and sometimes they turned back for weather or more parts. By the time they got to Westport, Sean had the single-engine Ford Lehman running well, but the run from Westport to Seattle was closer to two days and they wanted to sleep. We traded a few texts, and Eric and Sandy drove me down to the commercial dock Friday evening. We needed to leave by 1AM not 5, to get into the Strait of Juan de Fuca before the weather and tide collided. No pics of the lumpy bar crossing in the dark, or the few minutes of wonderful stars when I had time to look up. Dwight plays the role of a curmudgeon tugboat captain well, but cooks, navigates, and then smiles. Sean worries about the weather, lines on the prop, probably the fresh crew, and is always so gracious. The trip was a good one, rounding Tatoosh about 2:30 not after dark, and with 3 hours on and 6 off, and we made it to Seattle, in 32 hours! I was impressed, and yes the name will be changed!
I hope you enjoy these shared snapshots - these pics are good therapy for me. Thanks All!
