Anacortes-Bremerton
I helped Heather and Scott buy their Ericson 38, so of course I'd be delighted to help them move the boat to Bremerton. While I had hoped to go via Port Townsend, there was a bit of weather out in the strait. We ducked inside Burrows Bay and cut through Deception Pass. The sun came out and we had a quick trip through the pass. We sailed much of the way, down past Holmes Harbor with anchored containerships and through a race. By Langley it was getting pretty lumpy, grey and wet. Heather may not have been feeling great, but she did a job fine driving while we ducked a barge and sorted out the entry. Tough docking, into the current, 15-20 on the beam blowing us off. Scott got the aft spring-line on the cleat, Heather tossed him the bowline, and slipped, face-planting on the dock. ARGH! Scott got to her, while I tried to get close enough to jump off. She had landed on her head just above her right eye, expanding goose-egg and eye swelling shut. Heather is a tough gal and sharp, explaining what drugs she had in her system, patch on neck, and even cracking a joke when the firemans radio landed on her head. It took over an hour to get her up the hill to Providence, but she didn't break anything, and they sent her home after 3 hours. Scott and I took the boat to Bremerton, motor sailing into the wind through the ferry lanes, trying to get pics of a friends Dutch powerboat, off Jefferson Head. We a short tour of Port Madison, and motored through Agate Pass. The North entrance to the Bremerton Marina is just under the old Navy ship, and this landing wasn't any easier. It was down current, and downwind, and someone stepped out to take the stopping line and fend off the bow - the port put the emergency ladder right in front of the anchor-argh! We put the covers on and I headed to Seattle on the ferry. Wow, what a trip - a bit of everything!
I hope you enjoy these shared snapshots - these pics are good therapy for me. Thanks All!
