Mary Kaye and Terry came up from Eugene for the strong Tayana Vancouver 42 with their local Naval Architect friend Jim. Terry turns out to have graduated from Skip & Jan's excellent Flagship Maritime Captains training, and is doing sail training and deliveries to get his hours up. Heading out towards Saddlebag Island, we had a nice little breeze to play around in Guemes Strait, and I think we are all eager to be sailing more. Every boat has interesting gotchas, mystery switches and rigging oddities. I found the odd "spinnaker halyard" knot on the granny bars, but even with everyone searching, we couldn't find the missing winch handles! We jumped and snugged as best we could, and found the boat had enough mass and momentum to turn tacks easily. Sheeted in, we would be able pinch up a few more degrees, but the broken wind instrument and damaged windex were not working indicators. Still it was a delightful sail, and they are eager to buy this sweet, stable and forgiving offshore design. I hope you enjoy these shared snapshots - these pics are good therapy for me. Thanks All!
