North Cascades, WA
Kathleen's been eager to go camping for ages, and returning from the SF offshore passage, now seemed the right time. We headed up to the Beckler River, where I had to scramble up to check familiar mossy spots for Chanterelles. Yep, this was a mushroom trip! I took a few shots of the moss and twigs hiding the mushrooms and we headed over Jacks Pass, and down to a family property near the North Fork Skykomish River. We set up the tent and headed out to the bridge to see if this was the year when the Salmon, "Pinks" or "Huppies" would return - yes! While there are shots of many different mushrooms here, some are known to be poison, so the only ones we eat, are easy to identify Chanterelles! Making coffee, I looked out the tent and thought it was really foggy, then realized it was one of Travis shipping containers. Kathleen spotted the birds patteling up river. Good times, great food, more mushrooms, then skunked. Kathleen got the only one on the other side of the bridge. We drove over Stevens Pass enjoying the Fall colors, snuck through Leavenworth, over Blewett Pass, and stopped at my sister Lane and Rodger's cabin for the night. It was raining by the time we stopped to see her in Seattle, and really pouring when we unloaded the car. Look at all the mushrooms Scott found! Kathleen made a mushroom soufflé with more mushrooms than ever! What a beautiful, bountiful Fall trip! Please enjoy these shared snapshots - the pics are good therapy for me. Thanks All!
