Shilshole / Seattle
Here's pics at last, from this year's Sloop Tavern Yacht Club/Shilshole Liveaboard Community "Race Your House". Always a fun race, I was delighted to be able to sail on Pat's Saga 43, s/v Fairtide again. We had a good fun crew this year, with Karl, Sean & I returning for another run at Pat's "arch nemesis", Marcus on on the Wauquiez Centurian 42, Appa. Joining us was "race ringer" Kurt and Island Freeport 36 cruisers Ryan and Jessie. Before the start I always like to get pics of all the other boats racing, even if it's a grey day. We were up wind for the start, and it looked like quite a crowd at the first close mark. We were scrambling to get the spinnaker up so I don't remember that rounding. The next mark was West of Jefferson Head, and we sailed through many of the early start, non-flying sail boats, chasing Appa. How did Ryan on the Sweden 36 get around that mark early? We chased Appa, and traded a few tacks over at Meadow Point with Red Hot, and ducked inside the dinghy fleet, while they went out. We finished with the genoa wrapped around Karl and Kurt, and laughing, tacked out to furl the sail, whew. All in all it was a fun race, and we came in 5th over all. When I got back to O-dock it was hard to believe that Ryan's Sweden 36 "Breeze" had ever left the dock! Thanks Pat! Thanks all!
I always try to get shots of the crew, boat details, sails and scenery to share. Please enjoy these snapshots - these pics are good therapy for me, and it's always a good to be on another boat, especially with such gracious fun folks!
