North Fork Skykomish River
North of Index, WA
With family scattered, we ducked the big Thanksgiving scene, picked up Scott's friend Mimi, and headed for the mountains. We drove up North of Index on the recently opened Index/Galena Road, and hung out at the bridge upstream of Howard Creek. After a few pics, I headed up the hill where we have found Chanterelles before. Skunked - no Chanterelles, I headed over to Iron Hold, Jill's family property, and found my first wet late bloomer. I worked up the hill, careful on the logs, to where Jill & I have found more in then past. Yeah a modest handfull and a few more pics! As I headed down, Kathleen radioed, Jill had arrived, and they were in the cabin. I found a few more pics as the sun went down. As I came around the corner of the cabin, I found the paint test, which reminded me of my architect/painter friend Burtolini's piece in a recent show. Kathleen made turkey sandwiches, and we had a somewhat intense foggy night drive home. That was a different Thanksgiving!
Please enjoy these snapshots - the pics are good therapy for me. Thanks all!
