The distinctive Beneteau First 42 was designed by the Argentinian architect German Frers, and recognized in Ferenc Mate's "World's Best Sailboats".
Neesha and Randy brought surveyor Allison Mazon up from Portland for the survey, and started early while the deck was dry. Here's shots of the prep, view up mast, haul-out at Seaview Boatyard, and rainy test sail. Allison's trainee Charles, was a good hand to have aboard.
Story: I went up to put the sheets on the genoa before the survey, and couldn’t pull the sail out! Chris walking by, asked if he could help, and we still couldn’t un-furl the sail. We passed the sail around the foil at least 15 times and pulled it down to the deck. I really couldn’t budge the swivel! Got out the penetrating spray and cleaned it out, and sprayed more Boeshield too. It was late, so I took the halyard around the sail to secure it for the night. I heard a noise and turned, just in time to see the halyard land on the deck. They had run a 6mm tail, that ran right through the clutch, argh! I wrangled help, found my bicycle chain and messenger line, and Dave cranked me up the tall mast. Took a bit of fiddling and more shive lube, Dave fished the line out of the mast with the coat hanger and we pulled up the halyard, re-feeding sail and furling it. Of course, it wasn’t till the sail was furled, did we see I had trapped the spinnaker halyard between the foil and the halyard retainer - another grind up Dave.
Please enjoy these snapshots - these pics are therapy for me, and it's always a fun to be with out on another good boat, even in the rain! Thanks all, and special thanks to Allison, what a trooper and a treat to work with!
