Shilshole to Foss Harbor
Kana and Jonathan bought Carl's Swanson 42, a strong ocean sailboat, and with a slip in Tacoma were eager to get the boat to less expensive moorage. Swamped with work in Pendelton, I got the delivery. Not a job to do alone, I wrangled Sarah and Dave from O-dock to help me. They've crewed with me before, and while still learning, are helpful, positive sailors and a delight to sail with. We got a slow start, checking the oil, and removing the sale sign. We put up the mainsail, motored down, past Elliot Bay and Blake Island where there were three anchored container ships, and headed down Colvos Passage. I decided to call Dave "Woody" as he was the chief log-spotter on the trip. Look at the container ship in the distance at 11:12, which turned into the big Evergreen Ever Lucky, passing us just after 11:38 headed to Tacoma. We got to see the Vashon/Southworth Ferry, and Doc's moored catamaran Cat Shot, one of the cruising club boats. The empty barge with pusher tug passed us as we zigzagged South motor sailing. When we could see Tacoma and the Foss Waterway we took down the main and motored up river and into the slip, well past it, and back with a little bow thruster help from Woody and his pike. Look for the tall black maast with double spreaders and the white fender-shaped radar reflector. While we docked just after five, we had a hike to a tram, then a bus ride to Seattle and light rail to Northgate where Kathleen picked us up. After a long day, we were happy to have a good Mexican dinner, before the drive back to Shilshole for our cars. Please enjoy these snapshots - these pics are therapy for me, and it's always a fun to be out on the water with good crew, on another delightful little delivery. Thanks all!
