Shilshole/Seattle, WA
Eager for another New Years Day sail, I wrangled my usual crew, Sara and
Dave on Tipsoo, another O-dock boat at Shilshole Bay Marina. They sailed with me last year when we had wind. This year there was no wind for sailing - argh! Kathleen, my sister Lane, and her friend Scott came this year! We motored out after 11AM, past all the sea lions and the eagle. I'm always looking for shots of boats sailing, even motoring, and found a few. We headed SW past Winslow to last bay on the East side of Bainbridge, Blakely Harbor, once a busier port than Seattle. As we came in, we could see the cruising club raft-up. We circled around, and Tor told us a couple boats were leaving and we could tie up to Discovery - sweet! The Beneteau s/v This Time Tomorrow escaped. Dana on s/v Rubigale was pulling her anchor and Jon and Gerri on s/v Charlie were wrestling with theirs, with help from Jeff of SV Boog and crew. Kathleen had made a butternut squash soup and a masala black-eyed peas spread for wraps or greens. Soon more food arrived on Discovery and we had a very nice little potluck lunch. Deeper in the harbor was the red Buchan 37 Mara, another O-dock boat, and the big blue Rocket Science. Hoping to get pics of PSCC boats with Mt. Ranier in the background, I was eager to head North ahead of the fleet, but we didn't see them. We did cross a interesting tug and surprisingly wide tow South of West Point. We made it back to Shilshole, past the sea lions on the breakwater, and docked before 4PM - yea! What a good crew and fine day!
Please enjoy these snapshots - the pics are good therapy for me, and a pleasure to share. Thanks all!
