What a great meeting! Margaret Pommert has been doing sail training from Puget Sound to the East Coast where she worked with Navy Midshipmen. She has taught Diesel Maintenance at Skagit Valley College and the Cruisers College program, and worked with the Sailing Foundation and the US Sailing International Offshore - Safety at Sea hands-on training. At our meeting she introduced the Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal with a montage of survivor pics and shared a few of the rescue stories - wow!
Margaret brought all her toys, three cartloads of MOB equipment and safety gear. Equipment ranged from The Lifesling developed by the Sailing Foundation, the usual PFDs, tethers, and throw bags, to Oscar the rescue dummy and a Recovery Ladder/Parbuckle lift. She had lots of interesting little tips, like where to add lights and reflector tape to helping folks back on board. Involving almost a third of the group in demos and support, Margaret made this a memorable meeting.
We have a good fun group of sailors that make up the Puget Sound Cruising Club, and I try to get pics of them at raft-ups or meetings. What a great group - thanks all!
